If I go on a diet, can it last for ever?
Filed under Diet & FitnessOct 6
I have been on a diet for a year now and have lost about 2 stone and now have a BMI score of about 24. If I continue with the diet will I eventually waste away, or will my body find a natural balance with the diet I am on? Will I have to change my eating habits to stop myself wasting away, and risk putting weight back on, or as long as my diet seems reasonably balanced will the weightloss stop eventually stop?

Hi Neil,
Well done for sticking to your diet and losing two stones.
The Americans Neil will not know what a stone is… hence less answers.
If one word can sum up the world it would be balance: hot/cold, high/low, bad/good, hunger/plenty and so on.
Within our bodies, the brain constantly strives to get a balance called homeostasis, and you hit upon that word you used twice in the question.
As long as you get a… here we go again… balanced diet, with a spread of meat veg and fruit, you have cracked it.
If your diet is missing essential vitamins and minerals you will pay for it later in life.
My sister used to have a Sunday lunch of beef, swimming in vinegar and a Yorkshire pudding.
She has suffered for many years with all sorts of illnesses directly attributed to vitamin and mineral deficiency, and only in the last 10 years is she taking nutrients she should have done from youth.
Too late, as the horse has well and truly bolted as they say.
Sorry to have said so much, but it is a subject close to my heart.
All the best

I think that you should now stop your silly weight loss programme, and just accept, as i have done, that you will always be one of llife’sodd shaped people. Ok you’ve lost some weight, well done. what do you want, a badge? Ive lost a couple of pounds when i went to the toilet last night you ddon’thear me shouting about it. Good grief. You sound like you have let your eating habits take over your life. I bet you eat lots of little pills and potions to help you. The next step is to be drawn in by a strange Cult around the same theme of weight loss, and before you know it you will be praising a made up god and singing happy clappy songs, until you decide to end it all in a masterbate-a-thon where the latent energy created is supposed to power your craft up to the heavens where you will oversee the new world created by the Illuminati. DDon’tsay i ddidn’twarn you.
